What is the history of colour and trend forecasting? What could the process of colour and trend forecasting look like in the future? This article by Joanna van Gent answers some of these questions and poses many more.
How do you think we can reconsider the fashion industry? Let us know in the comments.
Are you are interested to know how a colour forecast is developed? Come and join us on Saturday, 12 October 2024, for a 1-day workshop about Colour Forecasting.
This very special workshop is taking place at the studio of a colour trend forecaster Anna Maria Nyk and includes an optional studio tour on October 11.
If you are a designer (or a product manager, a stylistโฆ) looking to gain insight into the colour trends for the 2026+ and also learn how to conduct colour trend research, this workshop is for you.
What will you gain? You will get a different perspective on the world around you and will be able to translate this into colours.
In this workshop we will study macro developments and evaluate the assignments which the participants have prepared upfront. Ingredients that we will put on the table are images, colours and key wordings. Together we will look for connections and the common thread. During an intense and collaborative process we will filter the information and shape/set up a few colour trend stories. These will be accurate for the near future and a good foundation to use.
INFO
This workshop is led by two colour professionals: Anna Maria Nyk and Jeannette Hanenburg

Chromagenesis
by Vinciane Lacroix
On the weekend of October 4, 5 and 6, 2024, Iโll be exhibiting my chromatic research as part of the Parcours dโartistes dโEtterbeek, at the Hotel Sofitel, Place Jourdan in Brussels.
Take a painting, yours, mine or that of a great artist, a van Gogh for example. What if we rearranged the colors in a different way?
Thatโs the question behind this article and video. Here, pixels take on their own independence, roaming wherever they please. By imposing a few rules on them, they form surprising and sometimes really pretty images.
I pursued this research to create Chromagenesis, a process at the crossroads of generative art, traditional art and technology. The digital images thus produced always have the same size and pixels as the initial image; only the composition varies.
Initial compositions are established on the basis of various fully automated protocols, depending on a choice of parameters. While these compositions are certainly pleasing, they can appear too systematic. In my opinion, manual intervention brings interesting surprises.
As a foretaste, here are two examples, slightly degraded. Can you guess the artist? The original painting?

In the coming days, Iโll be posting new paintings on Instagram. At the Sofitel Hotel, youโll see fine art prints by Chromagenรจse.
I look forward to seeing you there!
